Board Member
Born in Pennsylvania to minister parents, Ann Squires was raised with a deep commitment to service. She built a distinguished career in development and fundraising, dedicating her life to helping organizations grow and better serve their communities.

Before earning her degree from the Pacific School of Religion in 1976, Ann began her fundraising journey with the Gray Panthers of the East Bay, where she wrote the original proposal for the Over 60’s Health Center. As Director of Alameda County Citizens for Better Nursing Home Care, she secured grants to establish the Nursing Home Ombudsman Program at the Marcus Foster Institute—a pioneering initiative supporting private funding for public education. She went on to develop programs recognizing teaching excellence and connecting students with corporate mentors.

In the 1980s, Ann created the Development Program at the Asian Art Museum, laying the groundwork for its eventual move and independence from the De Young Museum. Later, at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland, she raised $1.5 million for a new building and endowment fund. As a Capital Consultant, her clients included Asian Health Services, East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, Bessie Coleman Court, Berkeley Montessori School, and others.
Ann’s global impact began in 2004 when Gil and Karen Gleason invited her to help raise $35,000 for a small HIV/AIDS education program in Uganda, Friends of Ruwenzori (FOR). After visiting Uganda in 2007, Ann was deeply moved by the work and has continued her support ever since. Two decades later, FOR has grown into a thriving organization with economic development, home visit, microfinance, and hospital programs.

Today, Ann serves as Chair of the Strawberry Creek Lodge Foundation Board in Berkeley, where she lives. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter, and continues her lifelong commitment to community service. It was through her local swimming community at West Campus Pool that she met Bridget Glidden, who introduced her to Greater Vision International - Uganda —where Ann now serves as an invaluable Governing Board Member and on our Action Commitee. We are deeply grateful for Ann’s wisdom, experience, and unwavering dedication to GVI’s mission.
