George Ahirwe was born in Isingiro, in western Uganda, over 200 miles from GVU. The second of seven children, his father is a retired Parish Chief and his mother a retired nurse. George studied Real Estate Management at university and learned electrical engineering while working. Growing up, he witnessed the stark disparities between the haves and have-nots and experienced the challenges of living under a government that limited freedom of expression, which inspired him to become a human rights activist.

In 2017, George came to the United States seeking a life in a country with freedom of speech. He is now a General Maintenance Technician for commercial and residential properties and is pursuing his General Contractor’s License. Carrying forward the values of community and family support from his upbringing in Uganda, George continues to give back—both to his extended family and to those in need.
Through his cousin, he met his wife Angela, whom he married in 2020; Angela is friends with GVU founder Suzan Rickett, which led George to join GVU. At GVU, he has contributed to the recycling program, garage sales, and other early fundraising events. George’s passion for helping people and advocating for human rights shines through in all he does, and his efforts are deeply appreciated.
