Action Committee Member
Connie Sutton was born and raised in Southern California and later moved to the Bay Area for a cooler climate. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she became a teacher, earning her teaching credential from UC Berkeley and a degree in Political Science from UCLA. She met her husband while serving in the Peace Corps in El Salvador, and they have two children and three grandchildren.

During her time in El Salvador, Connie witnessed the challenges of poverty in the developing world. She later connected with her mother’s Spanish teacher, who had founded the Circulo de Amigas Foundation, an NGO providing scholarships for girls in Jinotega, Nicaragua. Connie has been working with the foundation for over 20 years. She also teaches Spanish at the El Cerrito Senior Center, where she met Bridget Glidden, a GVU Advisory Committee member, who invited her to join GVU. Inspired by her prior safari in Africa, Connie eagerly embraced the opportunity to contribute.

Connie’s experience, leadership, and dedication have made her an essential part of GVU. Her enthusiasm for helping others shines through in everything she does. As she reflects in the words of Ignatius Loyola, “To whom much is given, much will be required.” Connie truly gives of herself, and GVU is deeply grateful for her commitment and support.
